Applying Capabilities to Recruitment and Selection

The recruitment and selection process is one of the most important ways to shape the workforce in line with strategic and operational needs. The benefit of incorporating capabilities into this process is to give due weight to the characteristics that determine ‘how’ the candidate would carry out the task and ‘how’ they would contribute to council’s desired workplace culture, in addition to the knowledge and technical ability they will bring to the role.

LGNSW has developed an online Position Description Builder to assist councils through the process of developing capability-based position descriptions. This workshop will demonstrate how councils can utilise this tool for a range of purposes, in addition to addressing issues related to the assessment and selection of candidates.
