Advanced Community and Stakeholder Engagement

Community and stakeholder engagement is an integral component of local government, and it is area that is evolving – bringing with it new requirements and expectations in an increasingly complex environment.


This program builds on foundational knowledge and understanding of community and stakeholder engagement to explore key theory and how it relates to complexity in practice.

As an advanced program, it is assumed that participants have a good understanding of the basics: what engagement is (and isn’t), key principles, the process to follow and key methods. 

Key content:

Theory and research insights in participatory and deliberative democracy
Linking the theory and research to practical problems experienced in engagement practice
Framework for understanding complexity in community and stakeholder engagement
The role of good design and planning in assisting in working through complicated engagement
Role of evaluation in engagement

The process will be interactive and practical. Participants are invited to consider the aspects of community and stakeholder engagement that they, or their organisation, are looking to improve to bring to the session.
