Workforce and Future Skills

The 2022 Local Government Workforce Skills and Capability Survey - NSW Report provides comprehensive data and analysis of the local government workforce in NSW and its skilling needs, priorities and challenges.

The report draws from findings of a survey sent to all councils nationally and data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

This report updates previous local government research undertaken by the Local Government Associations in 2018.

The 2022 NSW Report is one of a series funded by the Commonwealth Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts, and delivered in conjunction with the Australian Local Government Association and its member associations.

The survey results show nine out of every 10 Australian councils are facing jobs and skills shortages, highlighting the need for increased investment in our local government workforce.
