Roads and infrastructure

The 2026-27 NSW Budget will invest:

Western Sydney water infrastructure

  • $5.2 billion over four years to deliver water infrastructure supporting new housing growth in Western Sydney.

Roads and Transport infrastructure

  • $6.6 billion over four years for new and upgraded roads in Western Sydney, jointly funded by the NSW and Commonwealth Governments.
  • $910.9 million to restore local and state roads, along with other essential public assets, damaged by natural disasters.
  • $6.5 billion over 10 years to deliver thousands of new electric buses and electric supported bus depots.
  • $212.5 million over four years to deliver the Road Safety Action Plan. This investment is strongly welcomed by LGNSW, as it aligns with our pre-budget submission calling for increased funding to improve road safety and strengthen the safety of road networks across NSW.

Local water utilities (LWUs)

  • The NSW Government has committed only $1.9 million in funding for LWUs. It is a major disappointment the NSW Government has failed to extend or replace the Safe and Secure Water Program (SSWP). The program is now exhausted, leaving many council LWUs without the critical support required to provide water security for their communities. LGNSW is seeking $1 billion, which is consistent with the findings of the NSW Auditor-General’s 2025 Local Government report.
  • $0.65 million in two pilot projects to help Western NSW councils collaborate and improve the reliability, resilience, and long-term sustainability of local water and sewer services.

Other

  • $10.7 million to support the first phase of implementation of the NSW Aboriginal Water Strategy, including grants and specialist advice to increase Aboriginal ownership of water
  • $10.5 million to upgrade Western NSW airports, including White Cliffs airstrip and Bourke airport.
