Stockpiling crushed glass for use in roads.

Sydney councils lead circular economy

Southern Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (SSROC) has released a tender on behalf of 16 Sydney metropolitan councils for the use of about one-third of glass from household recycling collections to use on roads and footpaths, as part of the Paving the Way initiative.

By signalling ongoing demand, SSROC aims to stimulate end markets for over 20,000 tonnes of recycled crushed glass a year, supporting local jobs and the development of essential recycling infrastructure.

The innovative contract model will also help councils with sustainability reporting by tracking emissions and volumes of recycled materials.

Councils are encouraged to email SSROC if interested in joining the Paving the Way contract or using the model for sustainable procurement in their region.
