Changes to state significant approval thresholds for Warehouses and Data Centres

The NSW Government has recently announced changes to the threshold for warehouses and data centres to be assessed as State Significant Development (SSD).

The changes are part of the NSW Government’s planning reforms being progressed to support economic recovery from Covid-19. From 1 June 2021, the way thresholds for data centres are measured will change from capital investment value (CIV), currently $50 million, to the total power consumption of 10 megawatts (equivalent to around $40 million CIV). The thresholds for warehouses will reduce from $50 million to $30 million. These changes will be in place for two years, ending on 31 May 2023.
