Grants for councils to conserve local war memorials

Councils can apply for a second round of grants to conserve, repair and protect war memorials in their community under the NSW Government’s Community War Memorials Fund (CWMF).

Managed by the NSW Office for Veterans Affairs, the CWMF awards grants of up to $10,000 to help councils and communities conserve war memorials across the state. For example, Strathfield City Council successfully applied for a grant in 2018 to have the condition of the Enfield War Memorial (pictured) assessed. Then in 2019, the Council successfully reapplied to the program and obtained funding for specialist conservation work to repair and clean the memorial.

The CWMF recognises the special significance of war memorials as heritage places which honour a community’s service to the nation. The program has a focus on best practice conservation methods and can support a range of war memorial types including monuments, halls, honour rolls and avenues of honour.

Round 2 applications are open and will close on 11 February 2022 at 5pm.
