Review of Local Government Boundaries Commission

Review of Local Government Boundaries Commission

The Minister for Local Government has commissioned an independent review into the NSW Local Government Boundaries Commission (LGBC), to review its composition, function and processes.

LGNSW will be making a brief submission to the review.

While the NSW Government discussion paper for the review sets out a range of questions (including related to who can make a proposal to the LGBC, what factors should be considered) the LGNSW submission will be clear in advancing our position that there should be no forced amalgamation of councils or significant boundary alteration without the support of a plebiscite.

This position is informed by past Annual Conference resolutions as now reflected in the LGNSW Policy Platform.

LGNSW’s submission will build on this fundamental position, and we welcome further input from councils.

To provide input to the LGNSW submission, please email LGNSW Director Advocacy [email protected] by 9 December.

Submission direct to the NSW Government are due by 5pm on 16 December 2022.
