Winner Division C and Overall Category Winner

Port Macquarie-Hastings Council - Meet the Hastings - Which Bin?
Meet the Hastings Family - Harry, Lucy, Hannah, Joey and Timmy, your regular family trying to do their best to manage their household waste, for a cleaner, more sustainable local environment. While the ‘Which Bin?’ message is serious, the Hastings family delivers it with a large dose of humour and a sprinkling of lightheartedness, addressing research which shows more than 50% of items found in the red bin don’t actually belong there. Port Macquarie-Hastings Council - Meet the Hastings - Which Bin?

Winner Division A

Parkes Shire Council - Parkes water story
Parkes Shire Council services a water constrained community, and water management is one of the most crucial issues the community faces especially in times of drought. Council embarked on a communications program to inform residents of the town-wide upgrading of the entire urban water infrastructure, as well as to educate about broader water issues through treatment plant open days by introducing a mascot, Banjo the frog, to lead community engagement. The reclusive Giant Banjo Frog is the perfect candidate to represent the typically dry Parkes region and the community's almost ephemeral relationship with water.

Highly Commended Division C

Central Coast Council - Central Coast climate change policy engagement
The Central Coast region is vulnerable to the impacts of Climate Change with 95% of the local community living near the coast, bushland or rivers. Council heard from the community that it is imperative to address climate change and implement frameworks that address climate risks. The Central Coast Climate Change Policy included internal advocacy and a comprehensive community engagement process. Community consultation occurred over 6 months and involved online surveys, youth forums and five community workshops. The Policy now enables the implementation of the pathway to meet the Net Zero Emissions goal by 2050.

Highly Commended Division C

Cumberland Council - Discover Cumberland: civic education program
"Discover Cumberland" is a free civic education program which has been developed to meet the unique cultural and linguistic needs of the Cumberland community. The program aims to raise awareness of and increase access to Council services, improve understanding about waste management, stimulate peer-to-peer information sharing, and encourage participation in sustainability and civic life.
