Blue Mountains City Council - Jamison Catchment Streets to Creeks project
A pollution event in Wentworth Falls caused by the pesticide bifenthrin being conveyed directly to the waterways via the stormwater system resulted in the largest crayfish kill in the Blue Mountains along a 2km reach of Jamison Creek.

Council partnered with WaterNSW to construct stormwater biofiltration treatment systems at key nodes within the Jamison Creek catchment to protect the in-stream biodiversity, the downstream World Heritage National Park, and Sydney’s drinking water supply. These biofiltration systems should prevent future pollution incidents from being so detrimental.

Sutherland Shire Council - A practical solution to restoring ecological stability in a malodorous tidal creek system - Carina Creek
Residents living adjacent to the tidal Carina Creek had been experiencing severe odours for many years. Council’s research revealed the odours as hydrogen sulphide generated through natural cycles in the tidal creek but intensified through stagnated waters in the upper regions of the creek.

Council developed a practical cost-effective channel solution, that since completion has improved odours by reinstating natural tidal flows, improved health of the tidal creek and restored ecological stability.
