Randwick City Council: Purcell Park asbestos remediation and stormwater harvesting
In 2012, a detailed site investigation of Purcell Park was triggered following reports of illegal asbestos dumping, leading to the development of an Environmental Management Plan and Remediation Action Plan for the site.

This multidisciplinary project involved remediation of the entire site, including capping the existing contaminated soil using geofabric mesh and excavated natural material, followed by refurbishment to the existing playground, installation of new gates, a barbecue and picnic shelter.

Randwick Council also installed a new stormwater harvesting system to irrigate the park, which is saving up to 20 million litres of potable water every year.

Penrith City Council: Managing asbestos during council projects
To minimise risk of asbestos exposure and to ensure the long-term management of legacy asbestos within Penrith Council’s assets, the project created and implemented procedures, resources and tools for council staff to better manage asbestos during construction and civil projects.

Implementing an asbestos management framework that sits under council's asbestos policy as well as the development of a "Managing Asbestos Risks During Council Projects" document has been hugely successful with a significant improvement in asbestos management within council.
