Shoalhaven City Council: Reclaimed Water Management Scheme (REMS) 1B works
REMS is one of the largest, more complex water recycling schemes undertaken by a Local Water Utility. Following the success of the first stage, which was commissioned in 2002, Stage 1B works were initiated and included major upgrades to Bomaderry and Nowra wastewater treatment plants, construction of a dedicated reclaimed water transfer main beneath the Shoalhaven River, extensions to the existing REMS distribution network, as well as UV disinfection upgrades to the original works. The upgrades have resulted in more treated effluent being reclaimed for beneficial reuse, and significantly less effluent being directed to the Shoalhaven River and associated waterways.

Wollondilly Shire Council: Integrated water management strategy
Wollondilly contains many healthy creeks and rivers, however, increasing development pressure and growth is threatening to impact upon these natural areas.

In response, the council set out to better understand the value of the waterway assets, their impacts, and how best to manage and protect these into the future. This led to the development of the council’s Integrated Water Management Policy, Strategy and Water Sensitive Urban Design Guidelines, which were developed through rigorous stakeholder consultation, modelling and research. The documents provide a pathway to fully protect Wollondilly’s natural waterways into the future and to manage water in a manner that supports community liveability, greener neighbourhoods, biodiversity, water conservation and local economies.
