LGNSW President Cr Linda Scott

With several new local government areas declared natural disasters zones this week, there can be no doubt councils continue to play a key role as a trusted partner with state and commonwealth governments, on behalf of our communities.

This week we achieved the following key wins for local governments:

  • supporting councils such as Newcastle to be declared Natural Disaster Zones, and
  • successfully advocating for the the Mixed Waste Organic Outputs (MWOO) waste levy exemption extension, which was welcome news.

Please help us by contributing to our advocacy, including:

  • develop creative ways local governments can inspire wellbeing and economic development,
  • give voice to councils and their communities at bushfire inquiries, and
  • help shape building reforms by lodging an expression of interest for our LGNSW Building Reform Interest Group.

Tip of the week: How LGNSW supports you. LGNSW provides a free and confidential mentoring service for new and returning mayors and councillors. For guidance and support from highly experienced and well regarded colleagues, email [email protected]
