The Greening our City grant program supports councils and their partners to enhance urban tree canopy and green cover by co-funding tree planting and demonstration projects across Greater Sydney.

The 2020 grant round closed 19 August 2020.

Up to $12.5 million was available to fund new projects under the following two grant streams:

• Stream 1 Cooler suburbs: up to $10 million available to councils for tree planting projects in streets, parks and other areas where there is low canopy coverage.
• Stream 2 Green innovations: up to $2.5 million available to councils and partners for demonstration projects that further enhance, protect and/or showcase trees and urban greening within Greater Sydney.

LGNSW is working with the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment to administer this grant round.

Successful Applications
A total of $10,200,750 was approved across 50 projects.  This includes:

• Stream 1 – 38 projects and 29 councils receiving a total of $8,074,305
• Stream 2 - 12 projects, and 11 councils receiving a total of $2,126,445
