Local Strategic Planning: Your future LGA in 20 Years

In March 2018, new requirements were introduced for councils to prepare and make local strategic planning statements through amendments to the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.

Local strategic planning statements will set out:

  • The 20-year vision for land use in the local area
  • The special characteristics which contribute to local identity
  • Shared community values to be maintained and enhanced
  • How growth and change will be managed into the future

Seminar objectives

Participants will understand what the Local Strategic Planning Statement and related legislation can deliver for their local communities, how it integrates with Community Strategic Plans and other information including:

  • Timeframes for delivery of the LSPS
  • Background information required to produce the LSPS
  • Community engagement and the LSPS
  • The process for making the LSPS

This Seminar is intended for elected members, particularly Mayors and Chairs of Planning Committees, executives, managers and professional staff who would like to understand more about what the Local Strategic Planning Statement and related legislation can deliver for their local communities.

  3. An approach to undertaking the LSPS – SGS Economics
  4. Timeframes for completion of the LSPS

Facilitator

Simone Schwarz is an experienced facilitator of creative discussion who generates ideas and creative thinking. She is a strategy, monitoring and reporting expert, particularly in Integrated Planning and Reporting who is currently working on the Local Strategic Planning Statement for a large metropolitan council.  She has a wealth of experience in leading large complex services and projects in local government.
