Flying-fox Grant Program 2019

This $500,000 program provides grants to help councils manage flying-foxes and work with local communities, and is funded through the Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH) and administered by Local Government NSW.

Funding is available under four streams:

Stream 1 – Implementing emergency flying-fox camp management measures where there are significant community impacts.  Maximum grant size: $50,000

Stream 2 – Preparing flying-fox camp management plans. Maximum grant size: $15,000

Stream 3 – Implementing approved actions in flying-fox camp management plans. Maximum grant size: $50,000

Stream 4 - Running communication, community engagement and education activities. Maximum grant size: $10,000

Timeframes

Applications for grants in Streams 2, 3 and 4 are open until 13 March 2019.

Applications for emergency funds (Stream 1) can be made until 13 September 2019.

Final projects reports are required to be submitted by 13 December 2019.

Maximum grant amounts range from $10,000 to $50,000, with up to $150,000 available to groups of councils. Councils are required to match grant requests with their own contribution, which can be cash and/or in-kind.

Flying-fox Grant Program 2016-2018

The Flying Fox Grants Program assisted councils to manage flying fox camps, consistent with the Flying Fox Camp Management Policy 2015.

Funded through the Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH) and administered by Local Government NSW, this $1 million program was made available to address identified flying fox management issues facing NSW councils. 

The Program objectives sought to assist councils:

  • Implement emergency flying fox camp management measures where there are significant community impacts (Stream 1)
  • Prepare flying fox camp management plans (Stream 2)
  • Implement approved actions in flying fox camp management plans (Stream 3)
