Cr Rod Kendall was born in Holbrook and moved to Wagga Wagga at age seven, where he attended Turvey Park Primary School and Wagga Wagga High School.  He went on to study Civil Engineering at the University of New South Wales and Graduated with Honours.

He began his working life in Local Government before working as a Structural Engineer for the Rice Marketing Board. He began his own Structural Engineering Practice in Wagga Wagga in 1985 and sold the Practice in 2000, although he continued to consult for this Practice for five years.

Cr Kendall continues to undertake part-time consultancy work as a sole practitioner. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers.

Nine years ago he joined the Board of the Forrest Centre and he continues in that role – the Forrest Centre is a combined effort of the Catholic and Anglican Churches and provides aged care services in home and in two aged care facilities.

Cr Kendall:

  • Sat on the Board of the NSW Country Children’s Services Association for 10 years and was vice-president during that time. Robyn has been awarded Wagga Wagga’s Citizen of the Year and was also granted an ‘Order of Australia Medal’ - OAM in 2010 for her work with foster children.
  • Became Wagga Wagga City Council’s representative for Regional Capitals Australia in 2012. Cr Kendall served as the Chair of Regional Capitals Australia from 2014 to 2015. He served as the Chair of the Country Mayors Association of New South Wales and is the Interim Chair of Evocities.
  • Was elected to Wagga Wagga City Council in 2004 as Councillor and served continuously on the council in that role until September 2012 when he was elected Mayor of the City of Wagga Wagga.
  • Has served as a Councillor with Riverina Water County Council and was Chairman from 2009 until 2012 – he relinquished that Chair when elected as Mayor of Wagga Wagga.
  • Married Robyn in 1978 and they have four children. Rod and Robyn began fostering when their youngest child started school in 1991. They have a long history in support of children’s services in a voluntary capacity.
  • Is an LGNSW representative on the Water Directorate Executive Committee, DPI Water Liaison Committee and the State Pest Animal Committee.
